I love their walnut bean paste cake, egg custard tart and their cookies. They have moved across the street to a more contemporary space. Ming Hin Chinatown Squareįor bakery items, I like Chiu Quon at 2253 S. They have three other locations in the city of Chicago as well. The dim sum is good and the design is warm and contemporary, making it one of the the nicest restaurants in the area. It is under new management, but the quality of the food is still great.Īlways excellent is MingHin Cuisine at 2168 S. It has been my go-to spot for many years and I have shared the experience with many friends and family. Dim sum is also not available for dinner. You order off the menu during the week but pick your choices off the roving carts on the weekend. It is popular with the local Chinese American community. Chinatown Squareįor dim sum my top pick is Phoenix at 2131 S. Make sure to see the 12 Chinese zodiac statues in the outside plaza. It was designed by the well-known architects Harry Weese & Associates. from the Santa Railway, and built a two-level mall consisting of restaurants, shops and other offices. The newest part is along Archer Ave and in Chinatown Square which opened in 1993, after a group of Chinatown business leaders bought 32 acres on Archer Ave. ![]() The main part of the neighborhood is located along Wentworth Ave. One important building was the Moy Association Building from 1928. The move to the new Chinatown started around 1912 with many new structures and buildings built. The population of Chinese in Chicago more than doubled from 1890 to 1900, where they settled in the Old Chinatown. The first Chinese arrived in Chicago in 1869 when the First Transcontinental Railroad was completed. Throughout the year there are also a number of celebrations, festivals and parades including Chinese New Year and the Autumn Moon Festival. It is known for its many shops, restaurants, cafes, dim sum spots, tea houses and other cultural landmarks. It is one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore in the city. The area, centered around Cermak and Wentworth Avenues, was developed more than a century ago and has grown into one of the largest Chinatowns in the country. Left this place thinking this is CHINATOWN? Sad, so very sad.Located south of downtown, Chicago’s Chinatown is an historic neighborhood that is a thriving hub for the Chinese culture and community in Chicago. Even tho it looked unkempt from the outside we thought the upstairs dining area would be different but it wasn't. YUK! We picked this place because of Yelp reviews. Food was good but couldn't stop thinking whether kitchen area passed health inspection. If you're a germaphobic.do not come here. The women's restroom had two stalls (one was disgusting). The windows looked like they've NEVER been cleaned. The venue is so very dirty outside as it is inside. We were probably there for 1 1/2 hrs and not once did the server come over to see if we needed anything. Not a hello, how are you, nothing welcoming!!! As a matter of fact, we couldn't get one employee to smile. We were sitted within 5 minutes but waited 20 minutes before a server. It was our first time as we are from Texas. One part of the restaurant was semi-full. We were a party of 5 for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon.
